Another busy week in room 12.

We had a wonderful experience at Oxbow Park with very little rain and lots of learning.  Thank you to our volunteer drivers that made this trip possible.
Take a look at our day in pictures. What a great trip!

April's Almost Over

What's happening in room 12?

This week was so busy! We had a fun field trip to Franz Bakery, the Duniway Art Show and the Spring Concert.  Here are some pictures from our week.

Our clay totems were on display in the garden during the Art Show.

We also started our animal research reports this week.  Students will write a description of their animal, interesting facts about their animal, a description of its habitat and details about the animals diet.  Ask your student what animal they are researching!

Coming up next week, it will be moving day on Monday and Wednesday we are off to Oxbow Park for the day.
Check back next week for more pictures and our updated May calendar.

Have a great weekend!

Meet the Master: Frida Kahlo

During the last two art lessons we experienced the work of Frida Kahlo and her love of pets, especially birds.  In the first lesson, the students learned how to draw a parrot in a series of simple steps.  During the second lesson we added color and texture, using pastels, to bring the parrots to life, still life that is.  The students worked quietly while listening to Mexican music for inspiration.
Thanks to our parent volunteers for continuing to make art fun and educational for all us.

Winter Birthdays

On Friday, we celebrated all the second grade birthdays in November, December, January and February. We sang, enjoyed polite party conversation and ate delicious party snacks.
Thanks so much to the parent volunteers that made the party a huge success!

The Last Few Weeks

Hi Everyone!
I can't believe it's been so long since my last post.  We've been busy in second grade and I'll do my best to update you.

Art Lessons 3, 4 & 5
During art we finished up our self portraits in action by painting inside the black outlined drawings.

Last week we started print making! This lesson needed lots of volunteers, thanks for helping out last week.  We need a few more volunteers to finish this lesson next time.

Did you know that February is Dental Health Month?
We had a special presentation to learn the best ways to take care of our precious teeth.

Student assisting in flossing!

Playing Tooth Bingo

Auction Project
Thanks to Stacey Scales, Jen Cappalonga, Holly Waud, and Ilka Bailey our auction project is complete! The chairs turned out adorable.  I can't believe I didn't get a picture.  If anyone did, please send it to me and I'll post it.

Other News
Don't forget to check the calendar page and homework to make sure you are up to date!
You can also link directly to IXL from the sidebar.  Right now we are studying geometry in math and there is a small section on IXL.  Your student can practice some of things we are working on in class at home on IXL. So far we have discussed faces, sides and edges of 3-dimensional shapes, we have talked about symmetry, and today we touched on area.
Have Fun!
